A: Starters and a wide range of accessories are available at the main store but are not required to enjoy the breedable as a whole.

Q: Is it possible to Get accessories without paying?
A: Yes! In step one you will be getting two rewards cards the basic "Rewards Card" and the "Mondo Card" Which you can use to recycle unwanted Seeds/Eggs for points that are exchanged for random prizes!

*****How to Get Started *****

--------------------------------------
////////////// Step One /////////////////
-------------------------------------
Get yourself a HUD.

Go to the main store:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Grouse/41/26/1240

Click the white box that says "{Papillon} HUDs and Goodies"

Then equip your "{Papillon} Data HUD"

This handy HUD will tell you various traits about your Papillon!

--------------------------------------
////////////// Step Two /////////////////
-------------------------------------

Choose your Papillon:

There is a ton of paps to choose from and it can be hard to choose what is right for you! I usually suggest having a few plants as a base then introducing some critters over time! Mix and match and go with the flow!

~~~~
Plants: (Feeds Your Bugs/Critters!)
~~~~
Flowers and Flora:
Roses, Anthuriums, Orchid, Lily, Tulip, Blossom, Daisy, Sunflower, Clovers, Poppies, Alien Flower, and Birds of Paradise,

Crops (Fruits & Veggies)
Melon, Strawberry, Tomato, Carrot, Radishes, Pumpkin, and Agave,

Aquatic:
Sand Dollars,  Clam Shells, Terrors, Snellits, and Eye Stalks

Shrubbery & Forestry
Bonsai, Fiddler, Fronds, Shrooms and Glowshroom

Not Plants, But yes...
Crystals, Clusters and Magic Circles!

~~~
Plants are self reproducing in Papillons, only requiring weeding and watering. Which can be preformed manually, or automatically by classed Bugs/Critters or Accessories.
Weeding - Maintains the Health of your plant
Watering - Restores Resources More quickly
Resources - Food for your Bugs/Critters
Light - Food For your plants (Various Bugs, Accessories can produce light but it's not required)
Treating - Some plant seeds can be used as a snack for the rest of your garden!
(Note: Seed is lost when Treat is clicked)
Care Note: Various Accessories and classes such as a "Familiar", "Gardener" and/or "Tender" Can Weed and water your garden for you!
*Glowshrooms Can produce additional Light for your Garden.
~~~~
Bugs/Critters: (Eat plant Resources and can care for your garden)
~~~
Butterflies (Flutters), Fairies, Fireflies, Dragonflies, Snails, Ladybugs, Hoppers, and Fishies!
Requiring one male and one female to breed Bugs/Critters will flourish in your garden as long as they are well fed by the plants in your garden.
Note: Fish require a Helpful Starfish/Snail to eat properly. Which can be obtained for free in the "{Papillon} Fishie Goodies! box at the main store.
(Fish Do not require Fishtanks to live/breed/function)
Note: Fairies require a Fairy Shelter. Which acts as a safe-haven for the tiny fey while they are sleeping
Some lucky Bugs/Critters will be endowed with special classes that can help you care for your whole garden!
~~~~
Other: (Feeds on Magic, can care for your garden!)
~~~~
Wisps, Embers
♦Wisps are a strange combination of plant and critter magic. They do not require a mate to reproduce much like plants, but they can have special Classes like typical critters to aid in your garden.
Food Note: Wisps create new Wisps by collecting Light and Energy from your garden. All paps have a tiny bit of magic in them which wisps can collect. (They can even collect from you!) However Various accessories and classes can produce a lot more Light and Energy then others!
♦ Embers are not technically a breedable. They reproduce, but not in the traditional sense.  They can make new Embers over time, but they do not mate. They typically take the place of many Classes that care for your garden if your lacking some in the garden or needing to save prims.
////////////// Step Three /////////////////
-------------------------------------
Birds and the Bees:
Now either from buying starters from the main store, or seedling/eggs from a community market, or perhaps you were just given some as a gift! You now have a few Papillons!
For a small Papillon garden I suggest a land with at least 100 land impact as prims will run you around:
4-9 Prims per Critter
3-7+ Prims per Plant
Leaving you with enough room for a few Plants and a few breeding pairs with enough room for your new friends to rez their offspring! (I personally suggest leaving at lest 15% Of your prim count open for new Seeds/Eggs)
100 prims Minus %15 for eggs you can have about 15 paps per 100 Prims (average of 5 prims each)
I suggest rezing and birthing plants first and letting them run for a few hours before starting to rez Critters/Bugs. As your Bugs will be eating the resources your plants produce! If your plants are lacking in resources you will have unhappy Papillons ):
As for breeding your bugs it's just as simple as the plants. However after birthing it's suggested that you find a mate for your new bugs! Bugs can not cross breed with other species so you'll need one of the same type (Ex: dragonfly female needs a dragonfly male)
You can pair your critters by first naming them and then setting their mate by clicking on them and following through on their menus.
Setting mates is not required if you wish to let your critters make their own life decisions.
Critters/Bugs Breeding takes about 3 days
Plants However have a % chance to produce a new seedling daily! (the % raises daily based on care and accessories) Every day they will attempt to make a new seed, and if they fail their % chance, the % goes up! (Minimal cool down time of 2-3 days per seed)
Note: The fairies only reproduce at dawn and dusk (6Am to 7AM and 6PM to 7PM, SL Time).
--------------------------------------
////////////// Step Four /////////////////
-------------------------------------
Special Traits and Mutations!
It's been a few days and you managed to get your first few babies! Congrats! But now what?
There are many aspects of Papillons you can breed for! Be it, color, size, Class, Radiance, Racial Type and Even Mutations!
Mutations are exactly what they sound like, rare "genes" so to speak that can ether be passed down or pop up in new lines! There are three slots that can be filled or replaced. Which can be seen by using your HUD when you click on a Papillon!
[♥ Body Mutation]
[♦ Wing/Fin/Flower/Shell Mutation]
[♣ Effect Mutation]
If you don't have any mutations yet don't worry!
As your Papillon ages, and grows in your garden they will tier up (think leveling up!) Increasing their odds for mutating with each new baby they produce! Various accessories, classes, and treats also can be given to help boost your chances!
Pure color breeding, and Inbreeding siblings also further boosts your chances of your genes mutating!
On a special note; while Papillon is free to play I highly suggest picking up a Stocking from the main store. A donation of 100-200L depending on the style. Your donation for this stocking will give you daily goodies that change seasonally that can help your garden mutate! Do support the creator!
--------------------------------------
////////////// Step Five /////////////////
-------------------------------------
And you're done!
There is a lot more information to be had about paps but far too much to cover in a simple introductory card! If you have any questions feel free to Join the official Papillon group and have a gander at our community driven information archive!
Welcome to Paps and take care!
Papillon 101
What are Accessories and what do they do?
Accessories are papillon objects that will help your garden live its best life! They give your pets and plants boosts to morale (M), loyalty (L), food (F), and social (S).
Most accessories have a limited amount of tokens and will turn black when they run out UNLESS it is an eternal version. This excludes the pile of sugar, lots of sugar, sparkling motes of light, energy pool, omni tree, sim-wide happiness tool, sim-wide breeders tool, and eternal wide range multi-accessory…they all last forever.
What is Loyalty (L) and what does it do
Loyalty, usually represented as L, affects how much your butterflies eat, and how naughty they tend to be with each other (how often or quickly they use their mating cycles)
How often can my papillons mate?
Pets usually begin with 12 mating cycles.  Plants do not have a specified number of mating cycles.
Various classes and accessories can grant additional cycles. The following classes are known to give additional cycles: Godparent, Magi, Guardian
What is Morale and what does it do?
Morale, usually represented as M, affects how well your butterflies do whatever they do; it makes soldiers kill spiders better, priests heal faster, workers work harder, etc etc. Morale and Loyalty points change depending on the types of foods and accessories available in your garden.
What are Spiders and what do they do?
Spiders, which are no longer activated, are elements that appear randomly and can damage your pets or plants.  Various accessories will combat spiders and their webs like a gardening hoe, spooky log, starter accessory, and birdy bird, to name a few. Some classes will also combat spiders like assassin, gardener, and worker.
Plants occasionally attract a spider, based on how many pets are buzzing around. The more pets you have, the better the chances of your pretty plants acquiring some webbing. Spiderwebs trap your pets momentarily and hurt their poor little delicate wings. Spiders are scared away with gardening rakes (hoes), Soldier, Hunter, and Culler classes, and bee hives. Damage caused by spider webs can be healed by Priest/Priestess, Oracle, and Seeker. Babies are, of course, immune to spider webs because they’re still too tiny to get trapped! When spiderwebs are cleaned away the plant regains a small amount of its resources while the busy little pets tend to it.
What is Tier?
The longer any of the breedables remain rezzed and active, the more it does whatever it happens to do, and the higher its tier becomes.  Higher-tiers work more productively (scare away spiders faster, heal better, etc).  A high-tier king/queen/prince/princess can dramatically affect the production and consumption speeds of your pets. All the breedables DO all have a maximum potential age, but even after reaching that point they simply become pretty cosmetic toys.  They no longer do their jobs or eat, but they continue fluttering around and filling your garden with color.  Most of them will live at least half a year, and can survive upwards of a year and more, particularly when combined with longevity pools. A higher tier will make it more valuable, you’re more likely to get a better mutation from a Tier 6 flutter than a Tier 1. A Tier 6 has had a chance to gain mutation points and other stuff.
